How to choose the best travel agency

Travel is probably one of the most expensive intangible item you will ever buy and it's important to make the right choices. Most of us can benefit from a good travel agency and a good travel agent.

Even with so much information available on the Internet, a good travel agency can provide you with a broader and more complete range of services. The ability to talk to a real person can make an enormous difference when you run in to a problem, need assistance or simply are looking for some special advice.

Nothing better than finding a travel agency that specializes on a particular type of travel if it happens to be the type of travel you are interested in. If you have special rather than generic needs, see if you can find a travel agency that is experienced and specializes on your destination. Make sure they are able to make arrangements for transportation as well as accommodations and bi-lingual guides if needed.

Lower airfares are the results of special deals between travel agencies and some airlines. Basically all travel agencies have access to the same fares, but some agencies offer wholesale fares. Wholesale fares can be a lot cheaper than published fares but sometimes carry more restrictions and penalties than published fares. Hotel fares follow in to a similar situation but with more flexibility than airline tickets.

A good travel agent is worth more than his or her weight in gold. A good travel agent can help you make fully informed choices saving you time, money and sometimes a lot of headaches. Sometimes the cheapest is not always the best choice but the best value and the most suitable for your needs is the way to go. So, watch out for the agencies that promote themselves as the cheapest, after all do you want the cheapest car, the cheapest food, and the cheapest clothes?

A good travel agent working for a great travel agency is like icing on the top of the cake.

Make sure that your travel agent asks a lot of questions, such as:

Do you want a non-stop flight? Would you be interested in a flight with stops if will save you money?
Which airport is more convenient to you?
Would you be prepared to drive to another airport or fly in to a different airport so as to save money?
What would be the ideal time for your departure or your arrival?
Are you flexible with your travel dates if it will save you money?
Are you a member of a particular airline frequent flier program?
What's your seating preference?
Do you have any dietary needs?
Do you need a rental car, transfers or hotel accommodations at your destination?

A good travel agent will be focused always on you, not just the travel they are selling, they will try to describe everything in terms of your expectations They perhaps will be asking more questions about you than you will ask them about they travel products.

Finally, if the travel agent knows less than you about your destination may be you should look for help elsewhere.
