The
city of Sao Paulo was founded in 1554 by Jesuits and remained
a small town until the late 1800's when due to the highly productive
coffee plantations generated a wave of prosperity which started to attract capital
and manpower from all over the world. Sao Paulo is the richest and the most
dynamic place in Brazil.
The
city of Sao Paulo is the capital of the State of Sao Paulo which
has a very diverse economy. Sao Paulo has a very strong agribusiness
and just about everything from airplanes, satelites and automobiles
to clothing is manufactured there.
Sao
Paulo is a true melting pot, a mix of races that put this megalopolis
of more than 20 million people on the list of the top five largest cities
of the world.
Italian,
Arabic, Portuguese, Eastern European, African, Jewish, Korean,
Chinese and Japanese are the main group of immigrants that in
different times since the late 1800's have come to Brazil and
contributed to the astronomical growth of this cosmopolitan city.
Sao
Paulo receives visitors from all corners of the globe that usually come
to Brazil for business. It doesn't mean that Sao Paulo is all
about work and no play.
The
city never sleeps. Several gyms, bookstores, cafes are open
24 hours a day. This city also provides its visitors with hundreds
of movie theaters, thousands of restaurants, bars and pubs.
There
are nothing less than 32 shopping malls in Sao Paulo, countless
department stores and designer boutiques. There are also several
street fares and art exhibits troughout the city.
