Praia
do Forte and Costa do Sauipe
|
The
Brazilian Polynesia located about 30 miles north
of Salvador on the beginning of the Linha Verde,
the coastal highway. An ecological community that
takes pride in showing their region's many attractions.
Praia do Forte is simply a true natural paradise
with endless coconut groves, surrounding an international
resort, many small hotels, inns and restaurants.
Unpaved streets make this place uniquely charming.
Praia do Forte is one of the most important sprawling
grounds for many species of sea turtles living in
Brazil.

A
sea turtle preservation station open to visitors
has been set up there. There are many different
activities to be explored, on foot, on horseback,
or by jeep along the 8 miles of beaches that are
lined with coconut groves and dunes. The beaches
have tide pools of running water and are ideal for
all kinds of water sports. Diving in the enormous
coral reefs with maximum depth of 10 feet of crystal-clear
water is where free-style divers can observe dozens
of varieties and colors of fishes. Visitors who
are lucky enough to arrive between the months of
September and March, which is the egg-laying season
may witness the hatching and the little turtles,
emerge.
Costa
do Sauipe is a 500 acre complex just 50 miles north
of historic Salvador and just minutes from Praia do Forte. The beaches are beautiful
and the combination of hotels and facilities makes
this the perfect site for a relaxing vacation.
The
complex boasts five international-level hotels
There
is also a replica of a Brazilian colonial city,
Vila Nova da Praia, with shops, restaurants, bars
and six "pousadas" offering a less formal
and more intimate way to stay at Costa do Sauipe.
| Itacare,
Marau Peninsula and Ilheus |
Even
further south, on the Cocoa Coast, Ilhéus
famous for many works by the Brazilian writer
Jorge Amado has breath taking beaches of great beauty.
Ilhéus can be reached by plane and it has
very good infra structure with excellent inns and
hotels. Ilhéus is one of the best spots in
the world for deep-sea fishing.
Just
one hour north of Ilhéus is a must see, village
of Itacaré. A paradise for surfers and nature
lovers, with its perfect waives and an exuberant
Atlantic Forest that kisses the ocean along the
areas' innumerable coves and beaches.
An
ecological Highway (Linha Verde) that was recently
inaugurated, opening the way to the region connects
the village to Ilhéus. Small and beautiful,
deserted beaches that can sometimes only be accessed
on foot, the Barra do Rio de Contas, the ecological
reserve of Prainha, the mangroves are some of the
main attractions of this charming village. There
are many comfortable inns, an eco-resort
and good restaurants in the area. Itacaré
is also emerging rapidly in the area of ecotourism.
Hiking, horseback ridding, canoe rides trough the
mangroves and surfing are the most popular activities
on the area.
